We’re pleased to confirm that ‘Nae Fireworks Night’ is returning this year on Wednesday 5th of November.
So, if you have a nervous dog and you’re looking for somewhere quiet to walk them on 5th of November, then Whitelee Windfarm is the place for you. Site staff will be on site to manage the event and do our very best to maintain a firework-free zone. Fireworks are not permitted at Whitelee Windfarm so please don’t bring them.
Due to the size of the site and the number of visitors, we cannot guarantee a completely firework-free night – but we’ll do our very best. Visitors should also be aware that the sound of fireworks can travel a great distance and may sometimes be heard even when set off miles from the windfarm, so we strongly recommend that dogs are kept on leads.
If you see someone entering site with fireworks please let a member of staff know or call 0141 614 0962.
Opening times:
Nae Fireworks Night will begin at 5.30pm and finish at 10pm, including on-site parking (see details below). The Visitor Centre will be open until 9pm. Please ensure that all cars parked on the windfarm roads are removed by 10pm.
Visitor Centre & Refreshments:
The Visitor Centre will be open until 9pm for visitors (and well-behaved dogs) - don't forget to bring your re-usable cup to receive a discount off your hot drink and help us reduce waste. Takeaway is available to enjoy outside or at your car, and outdoor seating is available on the visitor centre deck and elsewhere, subject to weather conditions.
In addition to the Visitor Centre facilities there will be coffee vans at both the visitor centre car park and at turbine 40 (at the bottom of the hill from the visitor centre) as well as some additional portaloos.
Please wrap up warm and bring a torch if attending.
Parking:
Marshals will be on site to manage car parking. Please be patient as the site can get very busy. On-site parking will start from 5pm and all cars parked within the windfarm will need to be off-site by 10pm.
The walk to the Visitor Centre may take from 5 – 25 minutes depending on where you are parked on site.
Disabled visitors should make themselves known to parking marshals and every effort will be made to provide parking spaces as close to the visitor centre as possible.
Please note that a one-way system will be in operation for the duration of the event. Cars will be directed to enter the site via the Operational Entrance and later exit via the visitor centre car parks. Please follow on-site signage and the direction of parking marshals.
Ranger-led walks:
The popular Ranger-led torch-lit walks will again take place on the night (times & distances TBC) – please wrap up warm and bring a torch…and light up your dog with a light collar if you wish.
What to bring:
• Dress for the weather – warm clothes, waterproofs and don’t forget the dog’s coat!
• Torch & dog lights (if you have them)
• Dog lead
• Dog poo bags – Bag it and Bin it!
• Flask and snacks, as well as water and a bowl for your dog
• Re-usable cup if you’re heading to the Visitor Centre Café
Site maps are available from the leaflet dispensers next to the large map board in the visitor centre car park or from the Visitor Centre reception. Maps can also be downloaded onto smartphones using the QR code on signposts throughout the site.
Help everyone have a great time:
The aim of the event is to provide a quiet space to enjoy for people with dogs that are scared of fireworks. Site staff will do their best to maintain a quiet, firework-free zone but we cannot guarantee there won’t be some. There will also be a police presence this year to help with traffic management.
So that everyone and their dogs can have as enjoyable an experience as possible we ask that you please keep your dog on a lead. This will prevent issues with other dogs as well as ensuring their safety if the site is busy with people and traffic. Please also note that there is a livestock grazing area around the Blackwood Hill area – this is indicated on the ground by cattle grids on entering/exiting. If planning to go into this area, including Blackwood Hill viewpoint, please keep your dog on a lead at all times.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
