Barrhead Heritage Trail
About Barrhead Heritage Trail
The Barrhead Heritage Trail is comprised of three specially designed walks each of which takes in various sites of historical value around the town. Each of the 25 sites is marked by a circular commemorative blue plaque. Sites include 18th century inns, centuries old churches, the railway station and Arthurlie FC's football ground.
The oldest site on the trail is the 9th century Arthurlie Cross and other notable sites include the former home of Glasgow tearoom entrepreneur Miss Kate Cranston and Shanks of Barrhead who were well known for their bathroom sanitary ware.
Trail leaflets containing full details of each historical site can be obtained from the East Renfrewshire Council Offices on Main Street which is the starting place for each walk.
