Cycling Scotland has provided East Renfrewshire Council with a grant to recruit enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals as “Train Trainer Mentors” to support the development of Bikeability Level 2 on-road cycle training in its Primary schools (P6 or P7).
The role will involve:
- Training volunteers to delivery cycle training through delivery of Cycling Scotland’s one day “Cycle Trainer Assistant” course at schools
- Assisting schools by working with cycle trainers to deliver on-road training sessions
- Possible involvement in the cycle testing programme which follows the training
- Possible involvement in the delivery of cycle maintenance training sessions
Candidates are required to successfully complete Cycling Scotland’s four day “Cycle Trainer” and one day “Cycle Trainer +” course in order to fulfil the requirements of the role. The Courses are free and would be an excellent addition to a CV, however candidates would be expected to undertake training in their own time. Successful completion of the training courses would qualify candidates for the “Trainer Mentors” role.
Candidates would be trained in March/April 2014 and the role which would involve work between April and June 2014 within the school day between 9am and 3pm
Qualified “Trainer Mentors” would receive remuneration at a rate of £21 per hour. It is likely that qualified trainers would be offered approximately 50 hours of work over the training period.
It is hoped that there will be opportunities for the role to continue in future years subject to continued funding relating to the success of this years programme. The training courses provide excellent opportunities for related work in cycling and the skills and experience of the role would be attractive to other employers.
Availability required between 9am and 3pm February to June. Remuneration of £21 per hour for successfully trained candidates
More information on these excellent training courses can be found on Cycling Scotland’s website: http://www.cyclingscotland.org/
