Eastwood High pupils will be cheering on four girls and two boys on the momentous occasion on 16 July.
One pupil, Diane Barbour, was nominated by the school – all seven secondary schools were invited to put forward one batonbearer each.
All five others were nominated independently and all will run in East Renfrewshire.
The Eastwood team even got a mention in the Scottish Parliament, where they were congratulated on their success.
They are Morven Considine, 13, from Neilston, Abtaha Maqsood, 15, from Newton Mearns, Erin Wallace, 14, from Mearns, Diane Barbour, 17, also from Mearns, Stuart Young, 16, from Darnley, and Euan Ford, 12, from Newton Mearns.
Morven, an athlete, was nominated by her dad, Martin. She will be following in his footsteps as he ran with the baton in the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.
She said: “It’s great to know I’m going to be part of it.”
Cricketer Abtaha recently won her first cap for the full Scotland ladies’ team and is hoping to be picked again this year. She is also a black belt at tae kwon do.
Abtaha was nominated by her older brother Mohsi and said: “I’m really looking forward to it – it’ll be a great experience.”
Champion runner and triathlete Erin’s name was submitted by her parents. The S3 pupil has won a raft of Scottish titles and holds the Scottish indoor record for the 800 metres.
She said: “I knew my mum and dad were nominating me but I was so surprised to be chosen. It’ll be a great day.”
Athlete Diane, who has just left school and is going on to study sports coaching, has run for a local club and for the school team. She is also a volunteer sports coach in both the community and in the school, where she trains the girls’ football team.
“I was really pleased to be chosen”, she said. “It’s a great opportunity and something I’ll always remember.”
Stuart is a volunteer badminton coach and has also run competitively. He said: “I’m looking forward to hearing the cheering crowds just before I grab the baton. The email to let me know was late and arrived on April Fool’s Day. That got me for a second but then I realised, I’ve got a place!”
All-rounder Euan was nominated by his family for both his participation in sport and for his charity work on behalf of the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation.
He said: “I was very happy and totally shocked to be picked – I didn’t expect it at all! I’m looking forward to running with the baton on the day and my friends will be coming out to see me.”
East Renfrewshire will have 114 batonbearers when the relay comes through the area.
It will be just a week before the start of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The relay will pass through every area of East Ren, starting in Uplawmoor and finishing with an evening celebration at Cowan Park in Barrhead.
It offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy a fantastic day out, watching as the baton passes through every local community.
There is also a host of fantastic activities lined up to help residents celebrate a historic day.
See the dedicated area on our website – www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/batonrelay - and find out how you can take part in the momentous occasion.
