The popular visitor attraction in Giffnock this week received its fourth prestigious Green Flag Award, a sign to visitors that the park is well-maintained and well-managed, with excellent facilities.
Rouken Glen Park is one of 59 parks and green spaces to have been awarded the honour this year.
This ensures that even more of us now have access to well-managed, high-quality green spaces.
The Green Flag Award, administered in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful, the independent environmental charity, is the benchmark for a quality green space.
East Renfrewshire Council’s environment convener Councillor Vincent Waters said: “It’s wonderful news that Rouken Glen Park has received its fourth Green Flag.
“Each year thousands of visitors flock to Rouken Glen Park from all over the west of Scotland and beyond to enjoy its many attractions including its wide open spaces, walled garden, boating pond and spectacular waterfall.
“The pavilion/visitors’ centre was recently totally refurbished and our new and colourful £270,000 playground has attracted hundreds of children since it opened in June this year.
“So why not come along and spend a day in Rouken Glen Park, the jewel in East Renfrewshire’s crown.”
Derek Robertson, chief executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, added: “Scotland’s green spaces are going from strength to strength, with more parks flying the Green Flag than ever before. This is a reflection of how determined an increasing number of local authorities and park managers now are to make their parks the highest quality green spaces they can be.
“We’re very proud of all of our award winners, and particularly of the army of local volunteers who work all year round in rain or shine to make Scottish parks beautiful.
“Scotland has a wealth of parks and open spaces, vital to the physical and emotional well-being of our local communities. The Green Flag Award helps to provide a framework for partnerships between communities, local authorities, land managers and businesses to develop to manage our parks and open spaces in a more sustainable way.
“All over Scotland people are caring for their towns, cities and green spaces. Whether it’s through Green Flag or our other programmes such as Clean Up Scotland and Beautiful Scotland, local people are raising the bar and making their communities great places to live in.”
