Barrhead dad making a difference

A young dad is set to make a difference to his local community by setting up a dad and toddler group.

31-year-old Chris Turnbull and his one-year-old daughter Emily are the first members of Barrhead men and toddler which started this month.

Barrhead man Chris said: “I decided to set up this group as there’s nowhere for local dads to meet up with their children to socialize and spend time together. So far I’ve had a lot of interest and people asking me about the group. Please come along and join us. It’s set up by dads for dads with a young family and we want as many people as possible to come along.

“We are also looking for donations of toys for 0-5 year olds for the youngsters to play with so if anyone has unwanted toys please get in touch on our Facebook page.”

The dad’s group is one of the first initiatives to be supported by the Early Years Collaborative which was set up by East Renfrewshire CHCP to make Barrhead the best place in the world to grow up. The team is working to enable people in Barrhead to support each other to help build a stronger local community.

The Early Years team is offering training and support to develop a needs-led activity programme and providing healthy snacks and a small amount of funding to help the new group get off the ground.

The group will meet every Saturday morning from 10am til 12noon at Arthurlie House and is open to all men with children aged 0-5. The group has its own facebook page at www.facebook.com/barrheadmenandtoddler
