COMEDIAN Des Clarke, local teenage X Factor star Emily Middlemas, The King’s Peter Pan panto cast and Santa himself combine to light up the countdown to Christmas on Sunday 16th November with a spectacular celebrity-studded Christmas lights switch-on ceremony at The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns.
Taking place from 2.30pm till 4.30pm, Des Clarke will present the special event and perform the Christmas Light Switch on at 4pm together with Peter Pan cast members Scott Fletcher from River City (Peter Pan) and Joanne McGuiness (Wendy).
And there will be a special performance by local teenager Emily Middlemas who just missed out on the Live Finals of this year’s X Factor.
And Santa himself will make his grand entrance in the mall at 3pm to open his grotto, visitors to the grotto can choose whether to get a Christmas present, a photo or both – so make sure to get along. Santa with his little helpers in attendance will be there every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Christmas – and even on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd and Christmas Eve itself!
Michelle McCabe, Centre Manager at The Avenue, said: “Our Christmas lights switch-on ceremony is always a fantastic family occasion. We’ll have lots of fun and games, competitions and giveaways on the day including four tickets to the Peter Pan pantomime will be up for grabs for the show on Hogmanay. Not only will our balloon modeller be here, but popular mall mascots Newton and Fearn will be getting into the Christmas pantomime spirit by dressing up as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Bring the kids along to see them and why not see what offers our retailers have on the day? You might pick up some Christmas bargains!’
