East Ren’s convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth, Councillor Tony Buchanan is urging residents, local groups and businesses to apply for the funding which will be match funded by East Renfrewshire Council.
Stalled Spaces Scotland is looking to provide funding to enable imaginative ideas that will add life and vitality to town centre streets. The types of projects that may be considered for financial support include:
• Market places
• Performance spaces
• Street events
• Temporary public art
• Community gardens
• Community food growing
• Natural play features
• Solar farms.
This is the first of three rounds of Stalled Spaces Scotland funding which will be on offer during the next 18 months.
It is anticipated that Stalled Spaces will support between six and eight projects across East Renfrewshire and up to 30 across Scotland. Applications can made for funding from £500 up to £3,000; the size of project is less important than the idea. Groups with ideas are encouraged to discuss them with the council before submitting their application.
Grants are for 100 per cent of the costs but groups may wish to bring their own additional funding if a project costs more than £3,000. All projects must be completed by December 2016.
Applications for Stalled Space Scotland Funding for Town Centres can be made anytime from Monday 23 March and need to be submitted before the 27 April 2015 deadline. Details of how to apply can be found at www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/stalled-spaces. For inspiration and ideas go to www.ads.org.uk/access/features/stalled-spaces-scotland.
East Renfrewshire convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth, Councillor Tony Buchanan, said: “Support from Stalled Spaces Scotland will give people the opportunity to do something positive with those awkward pockets of unused ground in our town centres. We want residents, local groups and businesses to be imaginative about how their town centre spaces can be used in new ways. Please take this opportunity to apply for Stalled Spaces Scotland funding.”
Stalled Spaces Scotland is a Legacy 2014 programme led by Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS), aimed at supporting local authorities and communities to bring underused green spaces, stalled developments sites, vacant and derelict land back in to temporary use for the benefit of local communities.
