This development is among the first infrastructure projects to get underway as part of the £1.13 billion Glasgow and Clyde Valley City Deal, which sees East Renfrewshire and seven neighbouring local authorities work together to focus on supporting economic growth across the region. It has also been supported by Scottish Ministers, COSLA and the Scottish Government Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.
Each facility (75m2) can be adapted to suit a variety of small businesses requiring a workshop, storage and office space. Multiple units can be combined together for those who require additional space. The buildings are expected to be ready for business in April 2016 and will join the seven units already fully let at the site.
Contractor WH Malcolm will be carrying out the works. As part of East Renfrewshire Council and City Deal’s commitment to building strong and sustainable partnerships with businesses, a number of community benefits will be realised as part of this project.
WH Malcolm will be working with the council’s employability service to provide; two new jobs and work experience placements, further training and development for existing staff, a talk with local schools and sponsorship of a local sports club.
Convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth Cllr Tony Buchanan, commented: “Crossmill Business Park is the first of our ambitious City Deal infrastructure projects and continues our successful transformation along the Glasgow Road corridor in Barrhead, bringing vacant land back into use to create first-class flexible business locations with greenspaces.
“Our inspiring plans for the future of the area have been accelerated thanks to East Renfrewshire’s £44 million share of City Deal funding. Future projects will see investment in new business, leisure and homes supported by improved transportation links with Glasgow and beyond.”
