Rouken Glen Reminiscence Event

East Renfrewshire Council is reaching out to anyone who has a story to tell about visiting Rouken Glen Park between 1950 and 2000.

Article Source: East Renfrewshire Council
Last Updated: 10 March 2016 18:54

The council wants to capture people’s memories of the Park to mark the end of a council and Heritage Lottery Fund jointly funded project designed to restore some parts of the park to their former glory and create exciting, new facilities.

If you have a story to tell – perhaps you got engaged there; attended an event, or can evoke childhood memories of school or Sunday school outings - the council are running a Reminiscence Event in the Pavilion Visitor Centre in the park from 11am to 2pm on Friday, 18th March and would love to hear from you.

Organisers are hoping to capture memories for a book, ’Rouken Glen Park Rediscovered’ that will provide a record of the park’s history from that period, and for a video giving an overview of the HLF project.

A buffet lunch will be provided, so booking is essential. To reserve a place, please call 0141 577 3912 or email roukenglenpark@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk.
Key achievements of the Rouken Glen Park HLF funded improvement programme include:

• Re-developed children’s playpark, which has resulted in an increase in the number of visitors (approx. 800,000 per year). 34% of visitors are aged 0-19 years, compared to 23% in 2011. Source: Rouken Glen Park Visitor Survey 2015
• Refurbished Pavilion Visitor Centre, which is home to the Park Ranger service and features the ‘History of Rouken Glen Park’ exhibition
• Re-developed Walled Garden with new layout and planting
