A popular family-friendly beer festival is returning this summer and is urging beer and food lovers to sign up early to receive a substantial discount on their tickets.
The Giffnock Beer Festival, which takes place on Saturday, August 27, will see a world-class selection of craft brewers and distillers take the field at the grounds of renowned rugby club Glasgow Hutchesons' Aloysians RFC.
The event will also include hand-crafted foods from the likes of southside favourite and GHA supporter Toni's Pizzeria as well as street food pioneers Firedog.
The early-bird ticket offer, which starts today for a limited period, will see entry costs for adults reduced from £8 to £6 and concessions (students/pensioners) from £5 to £4. Under-18s, parents will be delighted to know, go free. Tickets can be bought from the GHA website, www.gharugby.co.uk and billetto.co.uk/giffnock-beer-festival-2016
The GBF will coincide with a major rugby match between GHA’s first XV team and a league rival, with the opportunity to spectate the crunch game included in the beer festival’s entrance fee.
Scottish craft beer champions, the Craft Beer Clan of Scotland is promoting the event, helping to bring prize-winning team of breweries together.
The starting line-up includes Glasgow breweries WEST, Drygate, Jaw Brew and local micro-brewery Clockwork, who boast a strong and loyal following among beer lovers in the city’s southside.
Edinburgh Beer Factory will represent the east coast, while Tempest Brewing Co, who recently won Brewery of the Year at the British Institute of Innkeeping Awards for Scotland, will be coming up from the Borders. Loch Lomond Brewery, who earlier this year won SIBA’s Champion Beer of Britain, also makes the GBF squad.
Forming a solid back row of wines, spirits and ciders will be the Bijou Wine Company, Dunbar’s Thistly Cross Cider, and the Glasgow Distillery Company, who will be unleashing their internationally renowned gin, Makar.
Organisers said that although the GBF offers some of Scotland’s best craft breweries and distilleries, the event was firmly focused on being family friendly, with fairground rides and other activities taking place.
Claire Marchelletta, Business Manager of GHA, said: “We’re focused on the Giffnock Beer Festival being a fun, family friendly beer festival, with something for everyone. We’ve some of the country’s best breweries and distillers bringing their excellent beers and spirits, live music, a First XV match for the rugby fans, and loads on for children too.”
Ms Marchelletta added: “We’ll have fairground rides, face painting, balloon artists, glitter tattooists and a few other surprises to keep children and adults entertained.”
THE GBF organiser said a wrist-band system would be in place for the fairground rides meaning daredevil children could take unlimited shots on the rides.
Ms Marchelletta said: “Last year was the first Giffnock Beer Festival and it was great to see so many people enjoying the rugby and some cracking beers. This year, with the Craft Beer Clan of Scotland lending their support, we’re predicting a home victory for the GHA.”
Ms Marchelletta said the event was established last year to raise funds for the GHA and proceeds would be used to support the club, which itself plays a vital part in the community through its various clubs, school programmes, youth matches and junior leagues.
Chris Miller, Director of the Craft Beer Clan of Scotland, said: “The Craft Beer Clan came together in the spirit of collaboration and community, so it’s hugely rewarding for us to be able to support the GHA through playing a part in the Giffnock Beer Festival.
“We want to see beer and rugby fans coming down here on the day and showing their support for this great team, for what it does in the community, and for these great breweries who are frankly world class and in a league of their own.”
