The first phase of plans to make Clarkston more pedestrian friendly will get under way next week.
A new clear pedestrian route will be created at the entrance to the railway station and roof car park, as well as safe walking routes across the Goods Yard car park to both the Library and Clarkston Halls.
Work will start on Tuesday May 2 and is expected to take three weeks to complete, before the next phase of improvement gets under way in the summer.
This will include trialling a new street layout on Busby Road to create more public space. Footpaths will be widened in some sections and traffic reduced to a single lane in each direction. Temporary planting and ‘parklets’ will be introduced to create places for meeting and sitting out, with the majority of on-street being parking retained.
