Flag raised to commemorate Armed Forces Day in East Renfrewshire
East Renfrewshire Council raised the Armed Forces Day flag today to mark Armed Forces Day which will be held on Saturday 28th June.

Provost Mary Montague joined Lord-Lieutenant Colonel Peter McCarthy at the Council Headquarters in Giffnock to raise the flag and show support for all individuals who make up the Armed Forces community – from currently serving troops to service families, veterans, and cadets.
Guests including serving military personnel, veterans, elected members and members of the local community were welcomed by Provost Montague to the event.
The flag was raised by Warrant Officer 1 Anthony Morrin from HMS Dalriada Royal Navy, and will fly all week at the Council Headquarters to show the Council’s support, and to raise awareness of the Armed Forces.
Provost Mary Montague, said: “Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and show our appreciation for the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. Today, we pay tribute not only to those in uniform but also to the families who support them, the veterans who have served before them, and the communities that stand behind them. Their dedication ensures the freedoms we enjoy every day - freedoms that are often taken for granted but are never free. We are proud to fly the Armed Forces Day flag in their honour.”
Colonel Peter McCarthy, Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire added: “We owe a huge debt to everyone in our Armed Forces community, who have served our country with such distinction and it is wonderful that East Renfrewshire Council will again be paying tribute to them during Armed Forces Week, providing such a much-valued morale boot for our serving personnel, veterans and their families.”
