Heritage Talk: Through the Windows of Glasgow Cathedral will take place at Barrhead Foundry on 5 March with tutor Paul Noble who will provide an illustrated talk about the history of Glasgow Cathedral and uncover some surprising links to the local area.
Historian Stuart Nisbet will lead a detective trail exploring the origins of Clarkston, Stamperland and Netherlee in The Story of Clarkston: An Adventure in Time heritage talk on 12 March at Clarkson Halls. Expert tutor Stuart will also lead two separate guided heritage walks, with Clarkston and Overlee on 21 April, followed by Stamperland and Netherlee on 28 April.
Local film maker Tom Marchant will present a season of screenings at the brand-new cinema room at Eastwood House. Tom has been making local history films for several years in partnership with local organisations and historians. Heritage screening of Nights at the Pictures and The Toledo will start the season on 10 February, with The City of the Dead and Old Cathcart on 10 March and The Village that Disappeared on 21 April.
A series of Hands On Heritage sessions are scheduled at Enjoy East Ren's new Heritage Store. The staff-led sessions allow participants to explore curated highlights of the East Renfrewshire Heritage Collection. Printing and Dyeing will explore items from the collections, allowing participants to discover more about this little-known industry. The Greatest Gentleman in the House of Commons will present highlights from the James Maxton collection on 19 March, Hidden Treasures will take place on 22 April, Shanks and Co items will be examined on 20 May and school days gone by will be explored on 17 June.
Local studies librarian Amanda Robb said: “We look forward to working with local experts to host a series of exciting new heritage sessions, helping people discover more about East Renfrewshire’s rich and fascinating history. We will present a variety of mediums, from films to walks and workshops, to support participants to further their research and knowledge.”
