East Renfrewshire libraries have partnered with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) to help raise awareness and encourage understanding of the various sources of air pollution through a brand-new programme of events and activities.
The line-up includes Storytelling and Craft Activities with creative practitioner and storyteller Andrew Wilson, workshops with comic book artist Tanya Roberts and Air Detectives sessions hosted at East Renfrewshire libraries.
Scott Simpson, Head of Libraries and Information at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: “We’re excited to partner with SEPA to present this programme of Air Quality events for a second year, with funding from SEPA in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council Environment Team.
“We love bringing exciting and impactful projects to the local community and this activity builds on our work around climate change and the environment, as part of the Root Cause project. We look forward to welcoming everyone along to our libraries for these engaging, interactive and inspiring sessions.”
Glasgow-based creative practitioner and storyteller Andrew Wilson will weave ancient stories and nature-based art activities at Storytelling and Craft sessions for ages 5-12 years, which take place at Clarkston Library on Wednesday 4 February, Mearns Library on Wednesday 11 February and Barrhead Foundry Library on Wednesday 25 February, starting at 6pm.
Children will explore the health of our air and find out various ways we can all contribute to improving air quality through hands-on demonstrations and experiments at Air Detective events, running during the February school holidays.
Air Detective events take place on 13 February, with Giffnock Library’s session at 11.30am and Barrhead Library’s session at 1.30pm. Busby Library will host the event on 17 February at 11am, before Eaglesham Library’s event at 2.30pm.
Comic book artist and illustrator Tanya Roberts will present four workshops at Neilston and Thornliebank Libraries with local pupils. During these engaging sessions, primary six pupils will create a small comic strip booklet to help promote key messages about air quality.
