£470,000 has been invested in improvement works, which includes the Council’s annual renewal programme, ensuring East Renfrewshire public spaces are maintained and safe.
The programme is financed through Council funds and Scottish Government, alongside developer contributions which provides funding from relevant planning proposals to mitigate the impact any new development may have on local services, infrastructure and facilities. Funding was also received from Scottish Water to invest specifically in Busby Glen following their completed sewer upgrade in the park.
The works included the installation of new and accessible play equipment, additional fencing, benches and paths and the refurbishment of existing equipment across the following parks:
• Netherlee Playing Fields - installation of new play area
• Busby Glen - replacement of fencing and installation of access path, benches and picnic benches
• Huntly Playing Fields, Giffnock - refurbishment of existing play area
• Alberstlund Hall, Newton Mearns - replacement of existing play area
• Eglington Drive, Eaglesham - replacement of existing play area
• Thornliebank Playing Fields – new zip line installed
• Easterton Avenue, Busby - replacement of fencing
• Rouken Glen Park – replacement of Pumping Station bridge
• Cowan Park, Barrhead – replacement of equipment
• Woodside Park, Barrhead – new surfacing installed
• Lochlibo Crescent, Barrhead - installation of access path
• Mafeking Terrace, Neilston – refurbishment of play area

Environment and Housing Convener, Councillor Danny Devlin, said: “East Renfrewshire has some great parks throughout the authority, so I’m delighted to see this programme of works complete and the wide range of upgrades which have taken place from Netherlee to Neilston and beyond. As we head into the warmer months, having safe, accessible and fun spaces for young people to enjoy outdoors is really important and these works are testament to our commitment to providing residents with high-quality facilities. I’d like to thank our employees and contractors for the work undertaken and look forward to seeing our communities enjoy these spaces.”
Finalists have been announced for the highly anticipated Scottish Excellence Awards 2026.
