The lighting festival is set to transform Rouken Glen Park in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire into an electric wonderland for eight nights in February 2016.

The winter 2016 event will see a new team of creatives work their magic and transport visitors to a luminous world within the boundaries of the park from 4 to 7 February and 10 to 14 February.

The creative director behind the new event is world renowned Phil Supple who designed the lighting for the ceramic poppy installation at The Tower of London and for the Speed of Light and Ghost Peloton performance art.

Phil promises to bring fire, light, original musical and sound scores to Rouken Glen. He explains: “I’m looking forward to bringing light and life to the dark winter months in one of the West of Scotland’s most beautiful parks. Rouken Glen has been given a makeover in recent months courtesy of the Heritage Lottery Fund Parks staff and we’re aiming to show it off in the best possible light in February.

“We’ll be building on the success of our original programme in 2013 and returning to light up the whole perimeter of the famous boating pond in technicolour. I’m exploring research into the historical design output of the Thornliebank Printworks and am working with some great digital artists to produce an animated projection work next to the Auldhouse Burn, shedding light on some of the 200 year old commercial patterns alongside contemporary Scottish designs in fantastic artwork.

“Electric Glen will celebrate the incredible design heritage and unique landscape of Rouken Glen using the talents of some of the nation’s finest contemporary landscape and outdoor artists. It’s all very exciting!”

Phil is teaming up with the production company headed by Derek Allan of Allan Associates and Phil O’Halloran from NL Productions whose credits include staging the award winning The Enchanted Forest in Pitlochry.

Together the trio will turn Rouken Glen Park in Giffnock into a magical night time adventure with a specially designed electric trail and will showcase the diverse natural beauty of the park at night. The enhanced show will improve the visitor experience for people with a disability or pushing wheels.

Visitors to the event can also take advantage of some fantastic dine-around offers in local East Renfrewshire restaurants and enjoy a hot snack and drinks at the pop-up catering village.

Tickets and more details are available at www.electricglen.co.uk or www.ticketmaster.co.uk Tickets cost £10 per adult and a ticket for a child from five to 15 years of age is £8. Under fives are free. A family ticket for two adults and two children is £30.

The event takes place at Rouken Glen Park, Giffnock, East Renfrewshire from 4 to 7 February and 10 to 14 February 2016.

Convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth, Councillor Tony Buchanan, said:

“We are very excited to be working with such a highly respected and high profile team on the new 2016 Electric Glen.

“This creative and extremely popular family event has sold out in previous years and with the winter 2016 festival promising to be bigger and better than ever we’re expecting a huge demand. So if you want to make winter 2016 one to remember make sure you get your tickets. They would make a great Christmas present.”
