After the overwhelming success of its inaugural event last year, Monteviot Lights is delighted to announce its highly anticipated return for a second year. This time, the enchanting light trail will embrace the magic of the season with a captivating Christmas theme, transforming Monteviot House and Gardens into a festive wonderland. This captivating spectacle promises to be even bigger and better than last year, creating an even more magical experience for families and visitors of all ages.
Running from December 6th through December 22nd, 2024, Monteviot Lights will offer visitors a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the enchanting Monteviot Gardens in a whole new light—literally. This year’s trail has been meticulously designed to immerse guests in the warmth, magic, and wonder of the festive season.
Unlike traditional light installations, Monteviot Lights embraces the natural backdrop of Monteviot Gardens, accentuating the beauty of nature itself. Visitors are in for a treat, with an unforgettable evening of wonder and enchantment. The garden’s natural beauty will be enhanced by a series of dazzling light displays, each inspired by the festive season, creating an atmosphere that’s perfect for family outings, romantic walks, and festive gatherings.
This captivating outdoor illuminated journey unfolds within Monteviot House's spectacular gardens as dusk settles over the historic grounds. Once again, starting at Harestanes Visitor Centre, you will walk a 1.8km route through beautifully lit gardens and woods. Creative lighting brings nature to life, complemented by breathtaking soundscapes. Pass through the magic doorway to encounter a symphony of twinkling lights, casting a spellbinding glow. Each step reveals a new spectacle, inviting you to immerse yourself in the ethereal ambience. Follow the illuminated pathway winding through the grounds, leading to a captivating winter fairytale. Visitors are invited to take their time and to enjoy locally sourced food and drink also available at the event.
Following on from the huge popularity of the event 2023 it aims to attract 10,000 visitors this year while focusing on long-term growth and sustainability, bringing wider economic benefits across the Scottish Borders, whilst preserving the natural environment that the event beautifully illuminates.
Tickets for Monteviot Lights are now available for purchase on the official website, www.monteviotlights.co.uk. Due to the event’s popularity last year, early booking is strongly recommended to secure preferred dates and times. The event will run on selected nights from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM, with timed entry slots to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience for all guests.
Monteviot Lights are incredibly grateful to EventScotland who are supporting the event via their National Events Funding Programme. Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events, VisitScotland commented: “We are proud to support Monteviot Lights through EventScotland’s National Events Funding Programme. Set in the stunning setting of Monteviot House and Gardens, this spectacular illuminated trail, with a festive wonderland theme, invites locals and visitors, young and old, into an awe-inspiring world of light and soundscape. Events play an important role in our communities by offering the chance to connect, enjoy and share memorable experiences, while also driving wider social, cultural and economic benefits.”
The Kerr family behind the event has been instrumental in its creation and eagerly invites visitors to share in the experience. Michael, 13th Marquis of Lothian, expresses excitement about bringing back the Scottish Borders' winter light trail. He commented, “We are absolutely thrilled to bring Monteviot Lights back for a second year. Last year’s event was a huge success, and we’ve taken all the feedback from our visitors to make this year’s trail even more magical. As a family we have had a vision for this event, and my daughters Lady Clare and Lady Mary have been instrumental in creating the design, so it will be thrilling so see it all come together. We’ve introduced new elements, expanded the light displays, and created a more immersive experience that truly captures the spirit of the season. We can’t wait to welcome visitors back to Monteviot and help them create unforgettable memories this Christmas.”
