Previous changes using AI-driven software have led to an average 8.3% improvement in punctuality across over 30 routes. First Bus believes these latest updates will continue to create a better and more reliable service for customers throughout Greater Glasgow.
Amongst the adjustments being made, services 61 and 75 will increase in frequency, further building on the success of similar alterations First Bus has been making since November 2023.
Also included in the updates is an amendment to service M3 which will operate a slightly revised city centre route and no longer serve Hope Street at Savoy Centre. It will now turn left onto Hope Street after leaving Renfrew Street before continuing to follow the normal route to Milton. All passengers who previously used this stop will be directed to Renfrew Street.
From Sunday 20th April, service 43 will operate between Parkhead Forge and Glasgow Fort from Monday to Sunday.
By combining the latest AI technology and First Bus network planning expertise, we have created timetables that reflect real life experience and improves reliability for customers, taking into consideration road conditions and congestion.
The updates to timetables is targeted at improving the reliability of the following services: 4, 4A, 5, 7, 7A, 9, 9A, 19, 34, 38, 38A, 38B, 38C, 38E, 41, 43, 46, 60, 60A, 61, 75, 87, 88, 88A, 88C, 89, 89A, 89B, X3, X8, X85, X87, M3.
Chris Coleman, Head of Network for First Bus in Scotland, said: “This is a significant package of improvements for our customers across Greater Glasgow. We want to provide a service that is reliable, consistent and, most importantly, on time.
“Congestion throughout Glasgow has increased greatly in recent years and this has had a hugely negative impact on bus services in the city. We recognise the importance of building timetables that fit with the current live road conditions, so our customers know when their bus will arrive.
“These adjustments we are making to the timetables will achieve that while allowing us to serve as many people as possible throughout Greater Glasgow.”
First Bus will endeavour to update physical touchpoints at bus stops as quickly as possible with the new timetable information but given the scale of the change, the operator would encourage all customers to utilise the First Bus app for the most up to date timetable and live bus tracking information.
