Mearns History Group Website

Mearns History Group was founded in 1999 for people interested in Newton Mearns, its history and heritage. We meet monthly when guest speakers give illustrated presentations on a variety of topics.

Meetings are normally held on the first Tuesday of the month from September to April in the Fairweather Hall, Barrhead Road, G77 6BB, at 7.30 p.m. Please note that that the first meeting in 2017 will be held on Wednesday, 4th January due to public holidays.

The Fairweather Hall is adjacent to the Avenue Shopping Centre and is well placed for public transport and parking facilities. The Hall has an excellent screen and a loop system for those with hearing difficulties.

In addition to our monthly meetings we hold three film nights each session when films reflecting Scottish history and culture are shown. However, due to due to our licence restrictions, we regret that our film nights are restricted to members only.

The annual subscription to the Group is £10.00. Guests are welcome to attend an individual meeting for a fee of £2.00.

For further information, please contact the Group Secretary, Ian Morton Tel: 0141 577 5904. Alternatively, you may wish to look at our website www.mearnshistory.org.uk which contains the 2016-2017 syllabus in addition to information about our heritage. Membership applications can be downloaded from the website.

We look forward to welcoming you and are confident you will find our meetings friendly and of interest.
