And the council is calling on drivers and pedestrians to be aware of the diversion, be patient of delays particularly during peak times and to keep safe while the work is taking place.
The major road works, which are from Eastwood Toll to Davieland Road, will start on Monday 2 July to Sunday 15 July 2012.
The council's roads service will be replacing the worn-out surface on the eastbound and part of the westbound carriageway and westbound pavement.
The work will be on Rouken Glen Road between Eastwood Toll and Davieland Road. The eastbound and westbound carriageway will be closed at separate times to allow work on these sections to progress.
The eastbound carriageway will be closed from 2 July to 6 July with the westbound carriageway closed 9 July to 11 July. Traffic will be diverted via Davieland Road, Ayr Road and Eastwood Toll and vice versa depending on the closure. Everything will be complete by Monday 16 July when the pavement and road surface will be finished.
The council's roads service have issued some helpful tips to drivers:
ALWAYS
• Give yourself more time for journeys
• Pay attention to the diversion signs
• Take extra care in and around the works and when using diversions
• Be patient and accept our apologies for any delay.
