The phased reopening of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure services starts with Click and Collect at Giffnock Library before being introduced at Mearns Library and Barrhead Foundry.
Library members will be able to select book bundles using an online form and will be allocated a time slot to collect their books from the library.
Chief Executive Anthony McReavy said: “We will be re-opening our services in stages, and the new Click and Collect service is the first stage in our re-opening plans. We are looking forward to offering readers the opportunity to borrow books again. Customers may not be able to go into the library to browse but they can request books and then collect them from the library.
“The Click and Collect library service will ensure the continued safety of our customers and staff while giving members access to our catalogue of books.
“Our staff have been working extremely hard behind the scenes in preparation for reopening, including additional training focused on helping and supporting customers. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and staff is our priority and social distancing and cleanliness measures will be in place across all of our venues and facilities.
“I want to thank all of our customers for their continued support and patience during this time and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”
The charity launched a brand new digital service, Pressreader, at the start of lockdown, giving access to over 7,000 worldwide magazines and newspapers.
The hugely popular Summer Reading Challenge was also launched by East Renfrewshire Libraries and The Reading Agency in June. It’s a digital reading challenge this year, encouraging children to discover exciting new books and develop their reading skills and enjoyment.
Adult readers have been enjoying the Online Reading Group, started by the library team in April, to reach library users and book lovers who missed visiting local libraries and being part of reading groups.
Online library services have been hugely popular with children and adults alike during lockdown, including ebooks, eAudiobooks and Ancestry, which is available free to all library members. To find out about any of the services available, visit: www.ercultureandleisure.org
