The second week of the month-long game is the ‘Go Travel’ themed week where people are encouraged to think about active travel rather than taking the car.

All Beat Boxes will be giving out double points from 7am and 9am plus 3pm to 6pm each weekday up to and including Tuesday 22 March.

The game is currently taking place across Barrhead, Newton Mearns and Neilston and more than 6,000 people have signed up to take part and have totalled an impressive 35,500 active travel miles.

It’s not too late to get involved in the free physical activity game that encourages players of all ages to get active and to ditch the car, and walk, scoot, wheel, cycle or run instead. Collect a card and map from one of the distribution points listed on the www.beatthestreet.me/eastrenfrewshire website, join a team and start playing!

There are total and average points leaderboards for schools, community teams and charities with vouchers for the teams that travel the furthest.

Kirkhill Primary School leads the total points leaderboard and Miles Heist tops the average points leaderboard.

Beat the Street Barrhead, Newton Mearns & Neilston has been commissioned by East Renfrewshire Council with support from Paths for All’s Smarter Choices, Smarter Places programme and Scotland's Towns Partnership’s Scotland Loves Local Fund. It is being delivered by Intelligent Health.

Gillian McCarney, Head of Environment at East Renfrewshire Council, said: “You can really see lots of people out and about enjoying the game – the competitive element of Beat the Street is a great motivator in this cold weather!”
