Third Green Flag for Rouken Glen Park

Rouken Glen Park in East Renfrewshire is again one of the best in the country - and that's official!

The popular visitor attraction in Giffnock this week received its third prestigious Green Flag Award, a sign to visitors that the park is well-maintained and well-managed, with excellent facilities.

Rouken Glen Park is one of 51 parks and green spaces in the Scotland to receive the Green Flag Award this year, seven more than in 2012.

This ensures that even more of us now have access to well-managed, high-quality green spaces.

Carole Noble, head of environmental services for Keep Scotland Beautiful, said:

“This is a real success story for Scotland - we now have over 50 Green Flag parks for the first time.

“We’re very proud of the local authorities and other park managers, and particularly of the army of local volunteers who work all year round in rain or shine to make Scottish parks beautiful.

“Just like in our other campaigns such as Clean Up Scotland and Beautiful Scotland, great people make great places, and these awards are for them.”

East Renfrewshire Council’s nvironment convener Councillor Vincent Waters said:

“Its wonderful news that Rouken Glen Park has yet again received a Green Flag.

“Each year thousands of visitors flock to Rouken Glen Park from all over the west of Scotland and beyond to enjoy its many attractions including its wide open spaces, walled garden, boating pond and waterfall.

“Many annual events are held in the park such as our Highland Games and the brilliant Electric Glen event which attracted huge crowds back in February.

“We also have a cafe again at the pond side called The Boathouse and later this summer the refurbished pavilion will be open to the public. So take advantage of this great weather we are experiencing and come and visit Rouken Glen Park, the jewel in East Renfrewshire’s crown.”
