From the original event in 1825 it’s amazing to realise 201 years have passed and our show is still going strong.
As we move into our third century, our big day out will get going at 8am as the sheepdog trials start in the top field.
The Main Ring judging of Cattle, Sheep and Clydesdale Horses starts at 10:00am, just as soon as more than 100 runners have started racing up to the top of Neilston Pad and returning to the Showfield to enjoy the rest of their day.
Our Educational Dome tent continues to expand, hosting our Crook Making competition, displaying intricate skill & workmanship. The Dome includes a full range of Field to Fork displays, with over 30 exhibitors from Ayrshire Bees to Shetland Sheep, and the ever popular Sheep Shearing Display, a great chance to see a farming skill which cannot be done by machine. The Educational Dome is a free attraction for youngsters of all ages to enjoy the exhibitions.
The Light Horse area has competitions for a range of equine types, to test competitors of all ages. We have a full programme of 10 Shetland Classes and a championship trophy to be won. Hoping for a dry day and a good number of high quality competitors.
Our Homecraft and Craft tents showcase the skills of local people. Be impressed by the quality of the items on display and for sale. Our Kids Craft Tent also offers something for younger children at no cost. From face painting, colouring in and a balloon modeller.
In the afternoon, the Grand Parade and Trophy Presentation is followed by local schools from Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor competing in Relay Races and Tug o War competitions, vocally supported by their school friends and families. Join in the fun and support your local school team.
Our Main Ring attraction for 2026, is a BMX Bike Display, demonstrating the skills of purely human powered bicycles.
We could not run Neilston Show without the support of the local community and businesses. We are indebted to the Crawford, Docherty, Murdoch and MacLeod families, and to Lynch Homes for the use of their fields for the Main show, Sheepdog trials, Horse section and car parking. My thanks must also go to all of the society Directors and many volunteers who willingly give up their time to make the show a success each year, and to all our sponsors for their invaluable support.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
