Renaissance Care’s Whitecraigs care home residents and staff look forward to Halloween every year, and especially love seeing local kids and families trick or treating around the neighbourhood. However, with this year’s restrictions, the home has got creative by painting pebbles in a Halloween theme and distributing them around the local area.
From creepy spiders and ghouls, to witches and pumpkins, the Whitecraigs residents have been using their artistic skills to help them stay connected to the local community.
Local kids are being encouraged to share the pebbles they find on social media for residents in the area to see, as well as to move them around to keep the hunt going, allowing as many people as possible to get involved.
The home has asked people to be conscious of staying safe during the hunt by following local lockdown guidelines and social distancing rules, as well as remembering to sanitise their hands before and after touching the pebbles.
Amanda Randou, home administrator at Whitecraigs, said: “Being a part of the community means so much to our residents. Normally, throughout the year we have heaps of activities and events which involve schools, nurseries and other community groups, but obviously all of this has been put on hold, which has been difficult for the residents.
“When the residents found out that trick or treating was being discouraged this year, we all put our heads together to figure out a way we could bring a smile to the faces of children around the area. By getting creative, we’re not only finding a way to add a bit of excitement to this unusual Halloween, but our residents also thoroughly enjoy painting which is a great way to keep them active and engaged during such a difficult period.”
The Halloween hunt will be located around Newton Mearns, starting at the care home in Thornliebank, covering Stewarton Road, Patterton Station and dotted around the local schools including Isobel Mair, Crookfur Primary and Eastwood High School.
