East Renfrewshire Libraries bring out the bunting for a trip down memory lane

With the Queen's Platinum Jubilee bank holiday fast approaching, East Renfrewshire libraries are inviting locals to come together and reminisce as part of a national initiative.

Giffnock Library will host the area's first Memory Group on Thursday 9 June from 1-2pm, as part of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure's partnership with the Memories Scotland project. The free event, facilitated by East Renfrewshire's library staff, will bring locals together for a trip down memory lane to reminisce about past celebrations, bank holidays and community events, before tucking into afternoon tea at 2pm.

Library services across Scotland have signed up to the project, which launches nationally on 25 May, sharing social history resources from their local studies collections and working to develop Memory Groups in their venues.

Scott Simpson, Head of Libraries and Information Service at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: “We're bringing out the bunting at Giffnock Library on 9 June. Join us as we reminisce on past celebrations and commemorations and the joys of a public holiday!

“We know many locals will have fascinating insights into their experiences of these celebrations and past events. We want to hear your memories of jubilees, royal weddings and community celebrations and reflect on the highlights of precious public holidays in years gone by.

“This is our first reminiscence session and we hope to share friendly chat and hear all about your memories and stories of the past, before we enjoy some afternoon tea together.”

Places for the Memory Group session between 1-2pm are free but limited so please book your place now to avoid disappointment by emailing: Giffnock.library@ercultureandleisure.org
