Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates heritage and the built environment, new and old. Every September, you can explore hundreds of fascinating buildings across Scotland for free. Some open up once a year, some just once in a lifetime.
Doors Open Days is a national event run by the Scottish Civic Trust. Information about the national programme, including event listings, can be found at www.doorsopendays.org.uk. Doors Open Days, along with Scottish Archaeology Month take place throughout Scotland and are part of European Heritage Days – an initiative which promotes a sense of community and a “common heritage” throughout the continent.
Programme Highlights:
Barrhead Housing
Please note this venue is open on Tuesday 23rd September. As the local community housing association for East Renfrewshire, we provide people with safe, aspirational and affordable places to call home and opportunities to lead happy, healthy, fulfilled lives.
Eastwood House
Eastwood House is a beautiful C-listed mansion house in Eastwood Park. With its grand sweeping staircase and beautifully appointed rooms, it offers visitors a window to its past life as a private estate while functioning today as a much loved community hub.
Eastwood Park Theatre
A conventional Proscenium arch theatre built in 1973 as part of the leisure complex in Eastwood Park. The venue hosts a variety of events from professional programming to community hires.
Glasgow Reform Synagogue
Glasgow Reform Synagogue is one of the oldest Jewish congregations remaining in Glasgow. We are a charity which provide Jewish Religious, Cultural and Social activities for people all over Scotland. We have members from the Borders to the Highlands and beyond!
St Joseph's Catholic Church, Clarkston
Please note that this venue is open on the first weekend of September. St Joseph’s is a parish community of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paisley. We serve the area including Busby, Clarkston, Netherlee, Muirend, parts of Giffnock, Carmunnock, Williamwood, Waterfoot and Thorntonhall.
The Carswell Centre
The Carswell Centre lies in the heart of the beautiful conservation village of Eaglesham, on Montgomery Street. The former church has been sympathetically refurbished as a community facility suitable for a variety of functions. It is also the focal point for many youth activities run by Eaglesham Parish Church and houses the famous William Gemmell Statues Collection created by the 19th century village sculptor and the Eaglesham Quilt, created to celebrate the village in 1992.
For more information on the participating buildings, events & tours, visit www.doorsopendays.org.uk
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
